Student Health Insurance
Students are advised (and international students are required) to have hospitalization and health insurance. A group insurance plan with provisions for either individuals or families is available through the University.  The premiums for this plan are billed monthly on students' University bills.  Information on the group insurance plan is mailed to all newly admitted students prior to the opening of fall classes and is available prior to other sessions from the Benefits Office, 120-40 University Services Building, The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242.

Student Health Services
The University Student Health Service provides medical care for all registered students. The Student Health direct-care staff is comprised of 10 physicians (including a psychiatrist and a gynecologist), physician assistants, registered nurses, and nursing assistants. Minor surgery is performed and routine laboratory procedures can be completed on-site. The staff can draw on any of the specialty services at University Hospitals and Clinics for consultation or treatment by referral.

There is no charge for a routine clinic visit, however, students will need to present their ID cards to verify that they are currently registered. Charges are made for minor surgical procedures, physicals, diagnostic laboratory procedures, injections, treatment for minor accidents, fractures, sprains, and other injuries. Existing health and accident insurance may be used to defray some charges. Outpatient or inpatient charges made for services provided at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics are the student's responsibility.  For more information, please click on the link below.
