Exam Information

Be sure to read the Examination Policy in the Student Handbook [pdf]. Any student whose situation matches those for which make-ups will be allowed under this policy must initiate a request by obtaining a make-up permission card in the Administrative Suite (280 BLB). After the card is issued, the instructor must sign it. The card must be returned to the Administrative Suite.

Laptop Exams

The College of Law offers the option of taking your exams on your laptop. Availability of this option is determined by the instructor for each course. If you have further questions, please see your course syllabus, the Laptop Exam Policies and Procedures document, or the Frequently Asked Questions Web Page.

Software
The College of Law adopted the SofTest software offered by ExamSoft Worldwide. The software is available for purchase at the ISBA Bookstore, room 218.

Fall 2011 Minimum System Requirements:

SofTest can be used on virtually any modern computer (i.e. purchased within the last 3-4 years). Specific system requirements are noted below:


PC Requirements:

  • 1 GHz Pentium III or industry equivalent Processor
  • 1 GB of Memory (RAM)
  • 50 MB of free space on your Hard Drive
  • English 32-bit Versions of Windows XP, 32-bit and 64-bit Versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7
  • Internet connection for SofTest Installation, Exam Download, and Exam Upload
  • Screen Resolution must be 1024x768 or higher
  • Administrator level account permissions

Mac Requirements

In order to use SofTest on your Apple Macbook or Macbook Pro natively, you must have:

  • Intel processor
  • 512 MB of Memory (RAM)
  • 50 MB of free disk space on your Hard Drive
  • MAC OS X 10.5.8 or 10.6 (Leopard or Snow Leopard)or Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)
  • Internet connection for SofTest Installation, Exam Download, and Exam Upload
  • Administrator level account permissions (instructions)

It is not possible to take secure exams through a virtual operating system such as Microsoft's Virtual Machine, Parallels or VMware, VMware Fusion or any other virtual operating system environment. Although SofTest can be installed and registered on virtual platforms, it will only be enabled for non-secure Practice Exams.

These requirements represent the minimum required to run the software for the Laptop Exams. If you would like assistance purchasing a new laptop, the Law Library technology staff can help.
