Both the LLM application form and statement of purpose are required for the LLM application. You may download the application form and statement of purpose from the University of Iowa Office of Admissions.

College of Law Application Forms

Other materials you will want to have collected for your application include:
  • Post-secondary education - must be a complete listing of every institution attended, regardless of duration of study, type of enrollment, or whether you earned a diploma or degree.
  • Official copies of academic records of coursework completed in colleges, universities, technical institutions, or professional institutions are required.  Academic records from other countries must bear the original stamp or seal of the university and signature of a school official (e.g., registrar or dean), and must be obtained from each institution you attended, regardless of duration of study or whether you obtained a degree.  Documents not in English, must be accompanied by complete, literal English translations certified by the issuing institution.
  • TOEFL scores are required unless the applicant completed a bachelor's degree at an accredited university in the US; have an equivalent degree at an accredited university in Australia, Canada (excluding Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom; or submit acceptable alternative evidence of a high degree of proficiency in English.  See also: http://www.uiowa.edu/admissions/graduate/programs/program-details/jd-toefl.html.
  • Class Rank - unless you are currently enrolled or a former UI student, have your law school and other graduate institutions forward your class rank or the grade distribution for your class to the College of Law.
  • Preferably two letters of recommendation from law professors who know you and the scope of your credentials should accompany your application.

Once admitted international students must submit evidence of adequate financial support to cover the costs of one year of study at The University of Iowa before a Certificate of Eligibility (I-20A-B or DS-2019) will be issued.
