Iowa City is a classic American college town, located a half-day drive from cities including Chicago, St. Louis and Minneapolis. Home to the University of Iowa and named as a City of Literature by UNESCO in 2008, Iowa City hosts a variety of summer theater and arts festivals and writing workshops. In the surrounding communities, visitors may enjoy seeing the Amana Colonies, the town of Kalona, or the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum.
The University of Iowa College of Law, founded in 1865, is the oldest law school west of the Mississippi River. We have about 45 faculty members and 600 students, who come from across the country and around the globe. The Law Library has been ranked as the second largest in the country, with a particularly strong collection of foreign, comparative, and international law materials. Each year, the College of Law welcomes a number of foreign-trained lawyers who enroll in our LLM program and others who spend time in residence as visiting scholars.
