Borrowing from UI Campus Libraries Law students may borrow books from any library on campus. Law students have the same borrowing privileges as graduate students at most libraries. However, students must go to those libraries to obtain materials; there is no delivery service. If you are unsure of locations, hours or privileges, go to the University Libraries' Website.
Borrowing from Other Non-UI Libraries Law students may request items from other non-UI libraries by filling out a form that is available at the Circulation Desk or by sending an e-mail to the Interlibrary Loan staff. The Law Library is a member of the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC). OCLC has over 60,450 participating institutions; 740 of the OCLC participating institutions are law libraries. Due to this membership, the Law Library has borrowing privileges from the collections of other member institutions. Because delivery may take as long as three to four weeks, give the Interlibrary Loan staff as much lead time as possible.
The membership agreements for some institutions provide for free photocopies of articles. However, not all institutions participate; if there is a fee for copies, the Law Library has limited funds to cover them. If you are a member of a journal staff or moot court, or you are a research assistant, these organizations or your faculty member often will cover the charges not covered by the Law Library. Check with your organization or faculty secretary before you ask for ILL copies.
