Faculty members may have up to ten journals or serials routed to them at their request. To have an item routed, the Law Library must receive a signed "Authorization for Routing of Library Items" form. Once the form is completed, the faculty member may send routing requests in writing or via e-mail to John Bergstrom (john-bergstrom@uiowa.edu).

Routed materials must be returned to the Law Library within 48 hours of receipt, as others may be waiting to see the item as well.  The Law Library staff appreciates faculty promptness and cooperation.  In some cases, several faculty members may wish to have the same publication routed. In this circumstance, faculty members should examine the item quickly, have any sections of interest photocopied, and then return the item to the library.

Many databases provide e-mail alerts for current awareness. Users must subscribe through the vendor website. The following is a selected list of publications providing such alerts:

Current Index to Legal Periodicals (CILP) CILP is a print tables of contents service produced by the University of Washington Gallagher Law Library.  It provides 50 weekly issues with timely topical access (4-6 weeks before commercial legal periodical indexes) to over 570 legal publications that are organized within 100 relevant subject headings.  The citations are provided in Bluebook form.  Please see a Reference Librarian for subscription information.

European Integration Current Contents The table of contents of journals newly arrived at the European University Institute (EUI) and Harvard Law School Libraries. Published biweekly and monthly.

Legal Scholarship Network (LSN) The LSN offers e-mail delivery of electronic journals in specific subject areas. The e-journals contain the working papers and final drafts of articles accepted for publication in law reviews and journals.

SmartCILP Current Index to Legal Publications, a University of Washington web service, provides topical access to over 570 legal publications table of contents. Contact a Reference Librarian for the authorization code to access the service. It is also available on Westlaw under the database identifier CILP. Coverage on Westlaw includes the eight most recent issues.

Table of Contents Service The University of Texas Tarlton Law Library publishes a keyword-searchable web database of more than 750 law reviews and other scholarly publications related to the law published in the United States and abroad. Updated daily, the database lists journal issues received over the past three months by the Tarlton Law Library.
