Founded in 1902, Phi Alpha Delta (PADS) is the nation's oldest and largest law fraternity. PADS has a distinguished history. It was the first law fraternity to recognize the importance of uniting all members of the legal profession, thereby removing all restrictions on membership by reason of race, sex, color, creed, national origin, and grade point average. The Hammond Chapter represents PADS at the University of Iowa. Established in 1908, the Hammond Chapter was the first PADS chapter to integrate racially and religiously. Thus, members or the Hammond Chapter at the University of Iowa are part of a proud tradition. Today, the organization strives to uphold the PADS motto: "Service to the student, the law school and the profession."
