Who We Are?
The
Hammond Chapter is the leading legal service organization at The
University of Iowa College of Law.
Each year we sponsor multiple
activities that focus on using the dynamism of Iowa Law's student body
to meet the needs of our community. Our motto is "Service to the
Student, the Law School, the Profession and the Community," and we
aspire to provide truly valuable and needed service in each of these
areas
In the last year, we have held collections for the Coralville/Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center, volunteered at the Iowa City Public Library Chess Tournament and the Writers' Workshop, cooked for families at the local Ronald McDonald House, staffed a fundraiser for The University of Iowa Museum of Art, worked on a number of homes with the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity,
and walked to raise money to fund breast cancer research and
prevention. Further, the upcoming months will see us helping the Shelter House and the Domestic Violence Intervention Program of Johnson County.
Recent News
The Toast to Justice will feature native Iowa wines, food specially
prepared by the area's best restaurants to complement the wines
offered for tasting, and live music by local artists. The evening
will culminate with presentation of the Toaster's Choice Award to the best wine and hors d'oeuvre offered to event attendees.
All proceeds
from the event will go to benefit Iowa Legal Aid, a nonprofit
organization which provides legal services to low-income Iowans in
every county of the state. Please visit http://www.iowalegalaid.org/ for
more information. Our goal is give over $5000 to Iowa Legal Aid
and establish this event as an annual attraction for legal
practitioners and wine connoisseurs.
