Brown Bag lunch with Planned Parenthood, April 12th at 12:40
- Save the date! Roz Lehman, Grassroots Organizer for Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa, will talk to us on Thursday, April 12th at 12:40 about the changing reproductive rights/heath laws in Iowa and beyond. Ms. Lehman will also discuss ways we as law students and lawyers can help change the reproductive rights laws in our areas.
Roe v. Wade attorney, Sarah Weddington to speak in Iowa, June 26, 2007
- Planned Parenthood of Southeast Iowa is proud to present their 2007 Annual Dinner with honored guest Sarah Weddinton, nationally known attorney and author. Reproductive Rights Journal Article of Interest
- In a recent journal article, entitled "Toward a Feminist Theory of the Rural," feminist professor Lisa R. Pruitt makes a new, more detailed argument for why informed consent provisions, waiting periods, and judicial bypass procedures for minors create undue burdens for rural women. - 2006/2007 LSFC Guide to Internships and Fellowships in Reproductive Rights
- LSFC Summer Internships
- Law Students for Choice is currently accepting applications for summer internships in our San Francisco office, and will be matching interns with other reproductive justice organizations (most likely Ibis Reproductive Health, NARAL CA, Planned Parenthood Golden Gate, etc).
- Legal internships at LSFC offer a great chance to work on substantive legal issues and education in reproductive rights in the law. Projects this summer will likely include the creation of a ConLaw primer in reproductive rights so that 1L’s nationwide can more effectively approach the core privacy right cases (Griswold, Roe, Casey, etc) especially in hostile classes, and may also include projects to assist community based organizations, research related to the limits of harm reduction advocacy in relation to self-induced abortions among immigrants, and coordinating election education materials for the ’06 Congressional elections.
- The LSFC national office provides a comprehensive legal intern training that has been highly rated by past participants, and offers a relaxed, empowerment friendly atmosphere conducive to catching a breather a from law school, recharging your activism batteries, and having a fun time producing thoughtful legal work for reproductive justice. Small stipends are provided to students who do have funding from their law schools, and in some cases to students who have only limited funding from outside sources.

- Summer Internship At Planned Parenthood Federation Of America
- The Public Policy Litigation and Law Department of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the world’s oldest and largest voluntary reproductive health care organization, is looking for law student interns in its New York and Washington, D.C. offices for the summer of 2007. Our litigation docket includes federal and state court challenges to laws and policies that restrict access to reproductive health services, and cases designed to expand access to reproductive health services and to protect providers of those services from anti-abortion violence. Activities that the intern would likely undertake would include legal research, drafting memos, pleadings and briefs, and communicating with clients.

- Robert L. Carter Fellowship, September 2007
- The Opportunity Agenda, a project of The Tides Center, seeks candidates for the first Robert L. Carter fellowship, to begin September of 2007. The Opportunity Agenda is a communications, research, and advocacy organization dedicated to building the national will to expand opportunity in America.
- The fellow will participate in legal research, conduct legal advocacy, work with communities, and collaborate with local and national public interest organizations. The fellowship will focus on promoting universal, equitable access to quality health care for all communities, and combating barriers to care based on race, gender, immigration status, and other characteristics. Activities are likely to include administrative advocacy, reporting, policy advocacy, and litigation support. This work will be done in close collaboration with The Opportunity Agenda’s legal, research, and communications staff, providing opportunities for social science research and media experience, as well as legal work. Fellows may also work on The Opportunity Agenda’s nascent criminal justice reform activities, as well as efforts to apply international human rights principles in the United States.
- Qualifications: Law school graduates, law students who will graduate in 2007, and judicial law clerks who will complete their clerkships in 2007. We also are particularly interested in candidates with a background or additional degrees in social science research, journalism, and/or communications. Candidates must have a strong interest in working with advocates and communities in the field. The Opportunity Agenda is an equal opportunity employer. - Compensation: The fellow will receive a salary of $37,500 plus The Opportunity Agenda’s benefits package. The term is for two years. The position will be based in our New York City office.

- Center for Reproductive Rights Fellowship
- Margaret P. Benson Memorial Scholarship program
- The Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC) at The University of Iowa invites applications for the Margaret P. Benson Memorial Scholarship program for the upcoming (2006-07) academic year. Application deadline is February 10, 2006. Created by a designated bequest to the University of Iowa Foundation, the Margaret P. Benson Memorial Scholarship recognizes qualified female applicants who demonstrate financial need and are committed to women's issues, diversity, and social activism. One or two awards are available each year. Awards generally range from $1000 to $2000 per academic year to be applied toward tuition, fees, living expenses, or books. The scholarship program is now in its fifth year.
- The Margaret P. Benson Memorial Scholarship is administered and selected by individuals affiliated with the Women's Resource and Action Center at the University of Iowa. The Center is a diverse community dedicated to fostering women's individual empowerment and systemic solutions to all forms of oppression. - ACS Summer Law Fellow
- The American Constitution Society's national office in Washington, DC is seeking Summer Law Fellows for 2006. Law fellows will work primarily on ACS's Constitution in the 21st Century project, conducting legal research and writing for various substantive initiatives and editing project papers. In addition, law fellows who are at ACS in mid-June will help plan, coordinate and staff the 2005 ACS National Convention. This is a paid summer position. ACS will permit split summers.
