Highlights
Professor Raymond joined the faculty in 1995. Before coming to the College, she served as a law clerk to the late Justice Thurgood Marshall of the Supreme Court of the United States and Judge James L. Oakes of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She then engaged in private practice, first as a commercial litigator and later as a criminal defense lawyer. Professor Raymond's scholarship focuses on constitutional criminal procedure, substantive criminal law, and the professional responsibility of lawyers. In 2004, Professor Raymond was the recipient of the Law School's Collegiate Teaching Award. Professor Raymond is the author of a Professional Responsibility casebook, The Law and Ethics of Law Practice (West Publishing, 2009).
Professor Raymond's service to the community and the profession includes service as a founding member of Iowa City's Police Citizen Review Board. She was appointed by the Iowa Supreme Court to the Iowa Rules of Professional Conduct Drafting Committee, and regularly offers continuing legal education presentations to state bar groups.
In addition to her service to the community and the profession, Prof. Raymond has been extensively involved in university faculty governance. She served as the President of the University's Faculty Senate in 2003-2004, co-chaired the University's Budget Committee in 2004-2005, and in 2002-2003 chaired an ad hoc committee investigating the University's handling of a criminal incident involving a prominent student athlete. Professor Raymond teaches Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Professional Responsibility, and a seminar on the Supreme Court.
