Jacob Schunk earned a BA from Concordia University in 2001, and a JD from the University of St. Thomas School of Law in 2004. He practiced law with Davis Brown in Des Moines, from 2004 to 2005, then clerked for the Honorable Diana Murphy on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals from 2005 to 2007 and then for the Honorable John R. Tunheim of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota in 2007. Following his clerkships, he practiced with Lindquist & Vennum, PLLP in Minneapolis from 2007 to 2008 and then joined the US Department of Justice as a Trial Attorney in Washington DC from 2008 to 2012. In 2012, he joined the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa as an Assistant US Attorney. His classroom experience includes teaching Civil Trial Advocacy, Civil Pretrial Advocacy, and Civil Pretrial Motion Practice at the National Advocacy Center, an arm of the US Department of Justice that provides training to Department prosecutors, and previously teaching legal writing as an adjunct professor at Washington College of Law - American University from 2009 to 2012.
