Support the College

A variety of activities are held every week for students at the College of Law. From intramural sports to formal events and conferences there is always something to do in addition to keeping up with the academic demands of life as a law student. Here are a few of Iowa's annual events.

Parents and Partners Day
For the past 28 years, Parents and Partners Day has been a fixture of the fall semester. It provides an opportunity for current students to give the people close to them a glimpse into life in law school. This day provides a mock class, building tours, and a cookout. In 2004, the event also launched the first annual Law School Auction. This auction offers gourmet dinners and activities with faculty members to the highest student bidders and serves to raise funds to provide to law students who work in low-paid or unpaid summer positions in the public sector.

Iowa Supreme Court Day
This traditional event honors the state's top court and recognizes the college's origins in the court's chambers. It is held every fall and four student advocates who are selected from the previous spring's Moot Court Competitions argue a moot case before the justices. The public is invited to attend the arguments. In the evening, faculty host dinners for the justices and students in their homes.

Barrister's Ball
Each spring, the Iowa Student Bar Association hosts a formal event for all law students, called the Barrister's Ball. It is typically held at the Iowa Memorial Union and students always enjoy a night off from studying and an opportunity to see their classmates in their finest.

LawLawPalooza
The Equal Justice Foundation hosts a live music event, known as LawLawPalooza, every spring to raise funds to provide to law students who work in low-paid or unpaid summer positions in the public sector. This event started over ten years ago at a student's house and has grown into one of the most popular student events at the college. Each year, law alumni and friends come back to Iowa City to get the band back together and play, or just to mingle with old friends and enjoy the atmosphere.
