Public interest is defined very broadly at the College of Law and includes jobs from public defenders to prosecutors to not-for-profit litigation firms. Our students pursue a variety of summer and permanent positions throughout the U.S. and abroad. In recent years, students have taken summer positions with human rights organizations in New Delhi, India and Stellenbosch, South Africa as well as with local, state and federal prosecutor's offices and public defenders, government agencies, and legal aid offices among others. The Equal Justice Foundation at the University of Iowa College of Law works to provide some funding for students interested in pursuing summer public interest opportunities. For more information about public interest law scholarships and grants, please see this Web Page. A great place to start a public interest job search is with a visit to PS LawNet. PS LawNet has a large searchable database of public interest opportunities in every area of the law. Just create a log-in and password and then click "search opportunities." Links on this page to outside services, venues, or products do not constitute an endorsement of any kind. These links are provided for informational purposes only. If you have a business in the Iowa City area that you feel would be appropriate on this page, contact the University Webmaster about the addition. |
