Fellowships

Position: National Litigation Fellowships - Pacific Legal Foundation's College of Public Interst Law - Sacramento, California
Salary: $52,000 after Bar admission; $40,000 pre-licensure
Deadline: October 31, 2005
Requirements: Pacific Legal Foundation's College of Public Interest Law is offering a limited number of national litigation fellowships to top graduates interested in rapidly gaining experience in the litigation of major cases. The fellowships are open to all graduating individuals of demonstrated high achievement and offer an exceptional opportunity as a stepping stone to private practice, public agency law, an academic career in the teaching of law, or a permanent position with Pacific Legal Foundation.
Duties: Pacific Legal Foundation, the largest and oldest national public interest law foudnation litigates in support of private property rights, individual liberties, limited government, and the free enterprise system. As a particpant in this program, you will receive concentrated litigation and writing experience in the areas of the Foundation's legal practice.

Position: Abraham Fuchsberg Fellowship - Public Citizen Litigation Group, Washington, D.C. (One year term beginning September 2006)
Salary: Approximately $35,000 plus benefits.
Deadline: Interviews will be held in mid December 2005 or early January 2006 and may be either in person or on the telephone.
Requirements: Solid academic background and strong writing and analytical skills. Some practical litigation experience in school or elsewhere is preferred but not required. A strong preference will be given to those who have a demonstrated commitment to public interest work.
Duties: Expect that the Fellow will work on both trial and appellate court matters, writing briefs and participating fully in the litigation process. Cannot guarantee, but hope that the Fellow will have the opportunity to argue in court.

Position: SEIU Law Fellowship - The Legal Department of the Service Employees International Union, Washington, D.C. (One year term - option to renew for a second year by mutual agreement. Start in September 2006.)
Salary: Commensurate with experience. Benefits.

Requirements: Recent law graduates, judicial clerks, and third-year law students are welcome to apply. Applicants should have excellent research and writing skills, a demonstrated commitment to workers' rights and a desire to practice union-side labor law.
Duties: The SEIU Law Fellowship Program was established to expose recent law graduates to legal work within an international union and offers an excellent opportunity for new lawyers to work with experienced union-side lawyers on a variety of cutting-edge issues related to the advancement of workers' interests. Fellows can expect to be involved in at least some of the following types of work - litigation to enforce the labor and employment rights of union members; handling matters before the National Labor Relations Board; advice and assistance to staff organizers; involvement in policy and legislative initiatives; attendance at SEIU and labor law conferences; and participation in SEIU's political program.
