Each year approximately 65 percent of students from the College of Law leave the state to begin their careers. And each year we hear from alumni who wish to return to Iowa to live and work. We want to help.
The College of Law has established a confidential and personalized program to help alumni with their return to Iowa. These services include:
- Career Counseling
- Transition Strategies
- Strategic Networking
We are building a network of alumni and employers who want to help other alumni relocate back to Iowa. This network is not limited to the practice of law. Iowa has developed a rich and vibrant economy that needs professionals with legal training in business, education, public service, and government, as well as law. Our goal is to help you clarify your interests and needs in preparation for meaningful conversations with key decision makers in your field. To discuss your plans contact Career Services.
Help Our Current Students

Employers frequently contact Career Services offices throughout the country when they are interested in advertising openings. Iowa provides its listings in a bi-weekly bulletin listed below. The Job Bank provides access to other schools' advertisements.
Most law schools support a policy of providing job search assistance to students and graduates of other law schools through reciprocity. This policy allows law schools to provide reasonable access to their career resources for law students and graduates from other law schools that agree to provide similar services.
Students and graduates of the Iowa Law School wishing to use the facilities of another law school should contact the Office of Career Services first. We can discuss with you where you might seek reciprocity and can generally tell you what services might be available at other schools. (Please note that most schools close reciprocity entirely from approximately August 1 until December 1.) We will then send a letter requesting reciprocity on your behalf.
Students and graduates of other law schools wishing to use the resources of The University of Iowa College of Law Office of Career Services should first contact their own Career Services Office. For more information, please see our Reciprocity Policy [pdf].
