The London Law Consortium consists of six ABA-approved law schools that offer students a culturally enriching study abroad program that meets in London during the spring semester of each year. The University of Iowa College of Law is the program administrator. The program is open to students at ABA-approved schools, with a preference to students enrolled in the member schools: The University of Iowa College of Law, Chicago-Kent College of Law, Indiana University at Bloomington School of Law, the University of Kansas School of Law, the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, and the University of Utah College of Law. The on-site director of the program in 2010 will be Professor Adrien K. Wing, a full-time faculty member at the University of Iowa. The program is now open to students from Non-Consortium Schools. The academic program at the London Law Consortium consists of courses taught by visiting consortium faculty members resident in London, courses on the English Legal System and law of the European Union taught by law lecturers from British universities, and a clinical studies course.
The English Legal System course is offered for 1 semester hour of credit, and is required for those students enrolled in the British Legal Externship/Seminar. This course provides an overview of law in England, the structure and jurisdiction of civil and criminal courts, and the organization of the legal profession. In the spring 2010, it will be taught by Barrister Mark Wyeth.
The Law of the European Union is offered for 3 semester hours of credit, and explores the relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union (E.U.), the law governing the formation of the E.U., and the law governing member states. It will be taught by Dr. Alexander Turk, a Senior Law Lecturer at King's College, University of London.
In addition to the English Legal System and Law of the European Union courses, the 2010 curriculum will include the following 3-credit hour courses: British Legal Externship/Seminar (taught by Professor Adrien Wing, Iowa); Federal Courts (taught by Professor Martha J. Dragich, Missouri); Freedom of Expression (taught by Professor Daniel O. Conkle, Indiana); International Human Rights (taught by Professor Adrien Wing, Iowa), Law and Literature (taught by Professor Martha J. Dragich, Missouri); Law and Religion (taught by Professor Daniel O. Conkle, Indiana).

Professor Daniel O. Conkle
(Freedom of Expression, Law and Religion)
Daniel O. Conkle is the Robert H. McKinney Professor of Law at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law – Bloomington. He received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from Ohio State University, where he served as Research Editor of the Ohio State Law Journal. After law school he served as a judicial clerk for Judge Edward Allen Tamm on the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Professor Conkle practiced with the Cincinnati law firm of Taft, Stettinius & Hollister before joining the Indiana law faculty in 1983. He has taught there successfully for twenty-six years, winning numerous awards for both his teaching and his scholarship. His book on the religion clauses of the U.S. Constitution is in its second edition. His extensive law review articles focus on constitutional law issues, with the greatest attention paid to the 1st Amendment. Besides the courses he is teaching in London Professor Conkle regularly teaches Constitutional Law and First Amendment Law.
Professor Martha J. Dragich
(Federal Courts, Law and Literature)
Martha J. Dragich is the James S. Rollins Professor of Law at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law. She earned her B.A., M.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota. Professor Dragich joined the Missouri faculty in 1993 and served as Associate Dean for Library and Information Resources from 1993 until 2005. Her scholarly writing centers on the structure and opinion publication practices of federal courts of appeals. Besides the courses she is teaching in London, she has taught courses in Conflicts of Law, Employment Discrimination, Legislation, and Remedies.
Senior Law Lecturer Dr. Alexander H. Turk
(Law of the European Union)
Dr. Alexander Türk is Senior Lecturer in Law at King’s College London. He was formerly a Lecturer at the European Institute of Public Administration in Maastricht (Netherlands). Dr Türk studied history (MA) and law (first and second state exam) in Augsburg, Germany. He obtained an LL.M in European Law at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of London. His principal research interests are in the field of European Union Law, and in particular its constitutional and administrative law. His recent publications include The Concept of Legislation in European Community Law (Kluwer, 2006), ‘The Development of Integrated Administration in the EU and its Consequences’ (2007) 13(2) European Law Journal 253-271 (together with H. Hofmann). This will be his fourth year teaching the Law of the European Union course in the London Law Consortium.
Professor Adrien K. Wing
(British Legal Externship/Seminar, International Human Rights)
Adrien K. Wing is the Bessie Dutton Murray Professor of Law at The University of Iowa. Professor Wing earned an A.B. degree from Princeton, a M.A. from U.C.L.A., and a J.D. degree from Stanford, where she served as Topic Development Editor of the Stanford Journal of International Law. She joined the Iowa law faculty in 1987 after five years of private practice as an international lawyer in New York City. She is the author of over 100 publications, many with an emphasis on women’s rights issues in the U.S., Africa and the Middle East. Besides the courses she will teach in London, Professor Wing regularly teaches courses in International Law, Comparative Law, and Critical Race Theory.

Mark Wyeth is a Barrister at Law, Queen's Counsel. He received his B.A. from Leicester Polytechnic and LL.M. and A.C.I. from London School of Economics at the University of London. He is a highly experienced barrister in private practice where he focuses on criminal cases.
