General Course Information

The academic program at the London Law Consortium consists of courses taught by visiting consortium faculty members resident in London, courses on the English Legal System and law of the European Union taught by law lecturers from British universities, and a clinical studies course.

The English Legal System course is offered for 1 semester hour of credit, and is required for those students enrolled in the British Legal Methods Clinical Program. This course provides an overview of law in England, the structure and jurisdiction of civil and criminal courts, and the organization of the legal profession.  In the spring 2009, it will be taught by Dr. Leslie Turano, Law Lecturer at King's College, University of London.

The Law of the European Union is offered for 3 semester hours of credit, and explores the relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union (E.U.), the law governing the formation of the E.U., and the law governing member states.  It will be taught by Dr. Alexander Tuerk, a Senior Law Lecturer at King's College, University of London.

In addition to the English Legal System and Law of the European Union courses, the 2009 curriculum will include the following 3-credit hour courses:  British Legal Methods Clinical Program (taught by Clinical Professor Patricia Acton, Iowa); Juries, Judges & Trials (taught by Professor Nancy Marder, Chicago-Kent College of Law); Law, Literature & Feminism (taught by Professor Marder); Commercial Law - Secured Transactions (taught by Professor Keith Meyer, University of Kansas School of Law); Contemporary Food Problems & Food Safety Issues (taught by Professor Meyer); Constitutional Law - Individual Rights (taught by Professor Wayne McCormack, University of Utah College of Law); and Legal Responses to Terrorism (taught by Professor McCormack).
